Position Details

The City of Edwardsville has an opening for a Deputy Fire Chief in our Fire Department.

The City of Edwardsville (population of 26,630 and the County seat for Madison County) is seeking candidates for the Deputy Fire Chief position.

This position became available due to a retirement/promotion.

The ideal candidate will be experienced, creative, flexible and able to address the community needs. Assists the Fire Chief in the administration, direction, and coordination of department activities and acts as second in command. Assists in the development of department policies and procedures. Assumes role of Fire Chief in Chief's absence. May assist in the preparation of department budget and monitor expenditures, oversees training, oversees Fire Prevention and Inspections. Supervises day personnel (probationary, light duty). Liaises with mutual aid organizations.

Fire Department Information:

• 1 Fire Chief, 1 Deputy Fire Chief, 1 Administrative Assistant, 30 Full Time Firefighters/Paramedics
• Operating Budget - $4.2 Million
• Annual Responses - 3250 calls (75% EMS/25% Fire)
• Response Area: Approximately 32 square miles covering the City of Edwardsville, including a major warehouse district and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. EFD also contracts to provide fire protection services to the Fort Russell Fire Protection District.

Upon appointment by the Mayor and approval by City Council, residency is required.
