Position Details

The Village of Tinley Park (population approx. 57,000) seeks qualified applicants for the full-time position of Records Supervisor with the Village of Tinley Park Police Department.

This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the Records Division, and managing and maintaining various computer systems utilized by the department. This position requires detailed knowledge of State Statutes, Village Ordinances, Freedom of Information Act, and departmental procedures. The Records Supervisor exercises supervision over those in the position of Clerk Matron and Midnight Records Clerk and is responsible for overseeing all shifts of the Records Division. This position reports to the Chief of Police or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; An Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising staff in a related field (records management, customer service, data processing); Law enforcement experience and experience using RMS preferred.
  • Must successfully complete LEADS certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills for interaction with elected and appointed officials, employees, agencies, other governmental units, and the public.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel and ability to use different software programs. • Operate efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines or comply with assignment demands.
  • Function under general supervision and operate within policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives. Read, interpret, and apply rules, laws, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidential matters, distinguish confidential material, and apply department standards.
  • Deal with the public or staff members in a helpful, calm, and efficient manner in a multi-task environment.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and physical appearance appropriate for daily public contact, and consistent attendance with advance notification of absences.
  • Recommend improvements to existing procedures, equipment, and workflow.

Typical Working Hours:

Minimum of forty (40) hours per week.

Residency Requirement:

All employees in this position are required to reside within thirty (30) miles from any border of Tinley Park, within twelve (12) months of employment date. Residency in Indiana in not permitted. No relocation expenses provided or reimbursed.
