Position Details

Mokena, IL, population 20,305 is a progressive suburban community located approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago in northeastern Will County. The Village of Mokena is a family-oriented community with outstanding schools, parks, and excellent municipal services.

The Village of Mokena is seeking professional, innovative, and self-motivated candidates interested in serving in the Police Chief position.

The Mokena Police Department has 33 sworn police officers, 6 civilian employees and a ±$5.18 million operating budget. The Village is known for a low crime rate and a friendly approachable police department. The Police Chief is appointed by the Mayor and Board of Trustees and reports to a professional Village Administrator and serves on the Administrator's executive leadership team.

The Village is seeking candidates with strong leadership and communication skills who wish to join a professional management team. All Village employees are expected to embrace the motto, "Where Our Customers Always Come First". Candidates must be committed to an inclusive management style and a proven history of building successful partnerships within their communities.

Qualifications:

• Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree. Completion of an advanced police management school and master's degree is desired.
• Candidates should also have at least five to ten years experience in a municipal law enforcement management or command position.

Residency in Mokena is expected within 1 year of appointment as required by Village Ordinance.
