Position Details

The Elgin Fire Department is seeking an experienced Assistant Fire Chief candidate to join its leadership team.

The Elgin Fire Department maintains a full-time professional staff of 137 members, including 133 sworn members and four civilian support personnel. The Assistant Fire Chief works closely with the fire chief and is responsible for directly supervising staff support members and shift battalion chiefs.

Required Education and Experience:

• Strong background in logistics, information systems with an emphasis in RMS, CAD and communication systems.
• Proven background and progressive experience in fire department management, five or more years of work experience in a staff level position.
• Three years work experience as a Chief Officer is required.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Fire science or related field.
• Valid driver's license and a safe driving record
• Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal, Certified Chief Fire Officer (or obtain within 2 years of hire)
• Incident Safety Officer Certification (or obtain within 1 year of hire)
• Current First Aid/CPR certifications
• Residency within 12 months
