Position Details

Leyden Township Fire Protection District is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Fire Chief.

The Leyden Township Fire Protection District serves a population of 18,000 residents. The department has an annual Budget of 3.1 million. Leyden Township is located in Cook County, approximately 20 miles west of Chicago. The Fire District covers an area of 20 square miles and encompass area in Franklin Park, Melrose Park and Northlake, IL. The fire district is comprised of a Fire Chief, an Administrative Assistant, 12 full-time firefighters, three contracted PSI paramedics and six part-time paramedics.

Qualifications:

• Applicants for this position should possess a minimum of five years of progressively responsible full-time experience in a fire department of equivalent size and characteristics.
• Applicants must have at least three years in a responsible command position, preferably in a fire department of comparable size and characteristics; and a Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred) in fire administration, public/business administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university. Advanced management training from an accredited college, university or training academy is preferred.
• An equivalent combination of experience, training and education will be considered.
• Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; strong leadership ability; be able to work effectively with local elected and appointed officials and community representatives; have a strong commitment to quality-based Fire service; and have the ability to foster and maintain a high level of professional and ethical conduct among members of the Fire Department.
• Residency in the District is preferred but not required.
