Position Details

The Village of Island Lake, IL is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Police Chief.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to community policing, ethical leadership and a proven track record in law enforcement.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily operations of the police department to ensure the delivery of high-quality police services to the community.
• Oversee and ensure mandated and developmental training is completed.
• Develop and implement community policing initiatives that promote trust and collaboration between the police and community.
• Manage the department's budget and resources to ensure efficient and effective use of taxpayer dollars.
• Foster a positive work environment and culture that demonstrates active concerns and attention to public needs as well as employee well-being.
• Collaborate with local, state and federal agencies while keeping Island Lake Police Department involved in regional joint ventures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a criminal justice or related field is desired.
• A minimum of 10 years law enforcement including experience at the command level.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor and coach employees.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships in the department and the community.
• Knowledge of best practices in law enforcement and current trends.
