Elk Grove Village, Illinois, (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community that is home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking progressive law enforcement professionals as candidates for its next Chief of Police. Elk Grove Village is located in Cook and DuPage Counties adjacent to O’Hare International Airport and is home to approximately 3,400 businesses located in its 6 square mile Business Park.
Reporting to the Village Manager, the Chief of Police will provide strategic leadership and management for the Department’s 90 sworn law enforcement officers, 16 full-time civilian employees, and 20 part-time personnel.
The Chief of Police must provide administrative and operational leadership and foster employee involvement in the decision-making process by encouraging creativity, initiative, and trust. Must also take individual action that fosters open and honest communication, teamwork, professional growth and development, and constant improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of work results.
The Chief of Police must be a leader and manager who views problems from a broad perspective and emphasizes solutions that support strategic objectives utilizing recognized best practices.
The Chief of Police must get things done, promptly implementing and carrying out Village Board and Village Manager-approved projects and programs in a timely manner. The Chief of Police must also have a reputation for follow-through, building respect, trust and reliability within the Elk Grove Village community.
Residency in Elk Grove Village is required within 18 months.
