Qualifications: 

  • Associate Degree (or 60 semester hours) granted by an accredited institution of higher education, preferably in police science, law enforcement, or other police or law curriculum.
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience as a police officer with a federal, state, county, college or university, municipal, or public institutional police organization having a recognized merit system. 

(Each position requires a background check.)

Departmental Preferences: 

  • 3-5 years of law enforcement experience with prior supervisory experience a plus.  
  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Criminal Justice, Management, Public Administration or a related field. 
  • Good disciplinary and complimentary history.
  • Proficient in computerized resources such as LEADS, CLEAR, NEIUPort, Microsoft, Internet searches, etc.
  • Knowledge of the State of Illinois Criminal Statues, case preparation and testimony in criminal cases.
  • Should submit a resume with an emphasis on education, training, and experience related to investigations and management and supervision of police personnel and investigations.  
  • Must be willing to adjust their schedule as needed based upon department investigative needs.
  • May submit up to three letters of recommendation if so desired.

Responsibilities:

Under regular supervision, this position coordinates and directs the activities of subordinate Police Officers assigned to the same activity and common work period in accordance with the missions, goals and objectives of Northeastern Illinois University and the University Police Department and in compliance with all governing federal and state laws.
