    Work Schedule and Travel Requirements:

    • This position requires availability for day (7 a.m. – 3 p.m.), evening (3-11 p.m.), and weekend shifts depending on campus operations and events.
    • Flexibility in scheduling is essential to meet departmental and University needs. Travel to multiple Wilmington University campus locations may be required on a rotating or permanent basis.

Position Overview:

Wilmington University is seeking dedicated, professional, and community-focused Constables to join our University Safety Department. This role is critical in ensuring a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors across all university campuses. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and committed to upholding the values and mission of the University while exercising sound judgment and discretion in all duties. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate's degree is preferred.
  • Relevant coursework or specialized training beyond high school is also preferred.

Certifications & Licensure:

  • POST certification preferred, including firearms, or a Delaware State Constable License (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Must maintain certifications in firearms, Taser, and CPR, in accordance with the Delaware Board of Examiners for Constables and Wilmington University standards.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Delaware Concealed Carry License or LEOSA certification upon hire.

Screening Requirements:

  • Must successfully complete a drug screening, physical examination, and psychological evaluation (MMPI or PAI), administered by a University-approved practitioner.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and maintaining positive working relationships across departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer literacy required.
  • Working knowledge of DELJIS, RMS, video surveillance systems, and other web-based safety or training platforms.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all certification and compliance requirements per Delaware Code Chapter 27, Section 2705, and related provisions.
  • Exercise full powers of arrest and detention as needed on Wilmington University campuses.
  • Collaborate with local and state law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of University-issued firearms while off duty.
  • Conduct regular patrols of campus facilities to provide visible and effective security presence.
  • Operate assigned safety vehicles and monitor safety desks, phones, radios, alarms, and CCTV systems.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to calls for service from students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Prepare detailed incident and accident reports in accordance with departmental protocols.
  • Utilize and manage departmental systems including DELJIS, RMS, access control systems, ID card production, lockdown and public announcement systems, and CCTV.
  • Ensure compliance with Clery Act requirements and departmental policies.
  • Assist with traffic control and monitor campus conditions for safety hazards.
  • Report any safety concerns to appropriate supervisors or departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the University Safety Operations Manager.
